Initial Consultation

Douglas Cheveralls Lawyers provide an initial consultation of up to one hour for a fixed fee of $330 (including GST) payable on the day of your appointment.

This is the time we sit down with you and listen to your story.

The meeting will help you to determine whether we are the right fit for you, and we will provide you with some general information about the key issues, preliminary advice and a proposed course of action.

We note that you will not necessarily receive considered or detailed advice during the consultation because, in most cases, we will need to carefully read your documents and check relevant legal authorities before we can provide you with considered advice.

If your matter is not resolved at the initial consultation, we will provide you with an estimate of the costs that you are likely to incur should you wish to engage us, and more details about our terms and procedures.

Our lawyers can meet with you at our Subiaco offices, or an online meeting can be scheduled via Zoom or MS Teams. Alternatively, a telephone appointment can also be arranged.

What to bring

As time is valuable, it is a good idea to prepare for your first consultation. Be prepared with a list of questions or concerns you have before your consultation so that you don’t forget to address them during the meeting.

You should bring along any documents, emails and letters that are relevant to your case. We strongly recommend printing them and putting them in a folder in date order and tagging the most important ones. This will enable the lawyer to quickly find and read relevant documents, so that you get the best out of the meeting. While we are willing to look at electronic documents, we find that it tends to waste time.
